The landscaping design and construction process

Transforming your ideas and visions into a beautiful natural landscape is a major undertaking, but it should be enjoyable. We try to make sure you have no surprises, so we do the work up-front to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Here are the steps we’ll take to bring your vision to life.

To begin with, we’ll visit you at your property to learn about your ideas, your expectations, what you want from your landscaping, and what time-frame you’re looking at. We’ll also identify any unique strengths and limitations or constraints of your site – such as drainage issues that need to be addressed prior to landscaping.

Landscape construction

At this point, we’ll ask you to share your own notes and any pictures you’ve collected while thinking about your landscaping, and we’ll get copies of any existing documents, such as lot surveys, grading plans or architectural plans.

You’ll have an opportunity to review our own extensive portfolio of landscape projects, so you can tell us what you like – and what you don’t. We might also visit actual properties.

At this point, we can suggest possible hardscape materials and construction techniques.

We’ll complete a site inventory analysis, research the property’s history and identify any permits and approvals we’ll need to obtain before starting work.

Next we’ll prepare a landscape concept plan incorporating:

Hardscape materials and positioning. What materials we’ll use and where we’ll locate such features as your swimming pool, spa, structures, patios, retaining walls, step systems, privacy screens and fencing, as required.

Softscape positioning. Where we’ll locate planting beds, turfed areas, and naturalized areas.

We’ll review this plan with you, revise it as necessary, and present a finalized landscape plan including a realistic construction schedule and budget.

Our contract will include guarantees, terms of payment and completion dates, and once everything’s been addressed to your satisfaction, we’re ready to begin construction.

As the build commences, you’ll meet our seasoned crew. We might be biased, but we consider these guys amazing – everyone is well-trained, experienced and self-sufficient. Our chief foreman has been with Natural Stonescapes for 23 years.

Throughout the build, we’ll continue to refine the design and consult with you often. Constant communication and updates are a must. On a major project, we try and have an on-site meeting at least once a week.
